    How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

    Visão geral

Theodor Seuss Geisel introduced the world to a green, grumpy creature named the Grinch in November 1957. This character lives on Mount Crumpit and despises the noise of the Whos in the town below. When Christmas approaches, the Grinch decides to steal every piece of holiday gear from the village. He dresses as Santa Claus and uses his dog Max as a reindeer to haul away all the food, gifts, and decorations. The plan works perfectly until he returns to his cave and hears the Whos singing despite having nothing left.

That moment changes everything for the Grinch. He realizes that Christmas comes from people's hearts rather than stores or presents. His heart grows three sizes, and he returns all the stolen items before joining the Whos for dinner. Dr. Seuss wrote this story to critique the commercialization of the holiday season during the mid-20th century. The narrative emphasizes community and love over material goods.

Random House published the book on November 24, 1957, while it also appeared in the December issue of Redbook magazine. The original edition contained 64 pages and has remained in print ever since. Over 8 million copies have sold worldwide, making it one of the most successful children's books of all time. The word "Grinch" entered the English lexicon as a term for a spoilsport or killjoy.
