Grand Blue Dreaming
Kenji Inoue
Visão geral
Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka launched Grand Blue Dreaming in April 2014, filling Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine with a story that defies the typical college romance mold. The series centers on Iori Kitahara, a fresh high school graduate who dreams of a sophisticated university life filled with elegant women and academic glory. His plans crumble instantly when he arrives at his uncle's scuba shop in Izu to find a group of naked, muscle-bound upperclassmen passing out from sake and playing strip games.
Iori gets dragged into the University Diving Club by seniors Ryujiro Chisa and Shinji, leaving him no choice but to endure their chaotic antics while his cousins, Nanaka and Chisa, watch in horror. The narrative balances slapstick humor involving heavy drinking and nudity with genuine moments of friendship as Iori slowly learns about diving and the reality of adult life. Yoshioka's artwork stands out for its dramatic framing, often mimicking action anime or horror movie scenes to heighten the absurdity of mundane events like getting drunk or falling off a boat.
The franchise has expanded far beyond the pages of the manga with multiple anime adaptations and a live-action film released in 2020. Season 1 aired in 2018, followed by a second season in 2025 and a third scheduled for July 2026. A fourth season received official confirmation in September 2026, proving the series' enduring popularity among seinen readers and animation fans alike.
