    Sobre

The Gates Foundation, headquartered in Seattle, is the world's largest private philanthropic organization. With an endowment of roughly $86 billion, it funds programs in over 140 countries and all 50 U.S. states. The foundation concentrates on improving global health, reducing extreme poverty, and expanding educational opportunities in the United States. It operates as a non-operating private foundation, meaning it primarily makes grants to partner organizations rather than running its own programs directly.

The foundation was created in 2000 from the merger of the William H. Gates Foundation, established in 1994, and the Gates Learning Foundation. Bill Gates and his then-wife Melinda French Gates founded it on the conviction that every life has equal value. Over its first 25 years, the foundation invested more than $102 billion in grants. Its work has contributed to dramatic reductions in child mortality, the near-eradication of polio, and the distribution of millions of bed nets and vaccines across Africa and South Asia.

The foundation operates through five major divisions: Global Health, Global Development, Global Growth & Opportunity, Global Policy & Advocacy, and the U.S. Program. Its Seattle campus, which opened in 2011, cost $500 million to build and is LEED Platinum certified, with a living roof, rainwater retention pool, and rooftop solar array. A large-scale fiber sculpture by artist Janet Echelman titled "Impatient Optimist" hangs in the main atrium, reflecting the foundation's philosophy of urgent, evidence-driven action.

    Missão

To create a world where every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life. The foundation pursues this by ensuring no mother or child dies a preventable death, controlling or eradicating deadly diseases, and helping people lift themselves from poverty to prosperity. It focuses on systemic change and measurable impact, partnering with governments, NGOs, and the private sector to scale proven solutions.
