    Iron Man's armor

    Visão geral

The first suit appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 during March 1963. Tony Stark and Ho Yinsen constructed this bulky grey prototype inside a cave in Vietnam to keep shrapnel from reaching the billionaire inventor's heart. The design proved so unappealing that Marvel quickly replaced the dull finish with the iconic red-and-gold scheme seen in subsequent issues. Artist Jack Kirby created the initial visual representation while Stan Lee wrote the story, establishing the foundation for decades of technological evolution.

Stark has continuously modified the exoskeleton to handle specific threats ranging from space travel to heavy combat scenarios. On Earth-616, these builds follow a "Model ### MK ###" designation system to distinguish separate iterations within a model line. Notable variants include the Silver Centurion armor made of Prometheum and the Hulkbuster designed specifically for fighting the Hulk. Recent entries like the Hellbuster featured in Infernal Hulk #6 add spike-covered modifications to the standard arsenal.

The character has adapted across multiple media formats beyond the comic pages. Robert Downey Jr portrayed Stark wearing various iterations from the 2008 film Iron Man through 2019's Avengers: Endgame, where the Mark LXXXV served as his final suit. Real-world engineering efforts have also drawn inspiration from the fictional tech, including a functional suit built by a 19-year-old student in Dublin and another project utilizing a hydrogen reactor.
