Black Lagoon
Rei Hiroe
Visão geral
Rei Hiroe's Black Lagoon unfolds in the fictional port city of Roanapur, Thailand, during the early 1990s. The narrative centers on the Lagoon Company, a four-person crew of pirate mercenaries who smuggle goods through Southeast Asia while navigating a world where legal authority holds little sway. Dutch leads the team with pragmatic calm, Benny handles mechanics from his Florida roots, and Revy serves as the volatile Chinese-American gunwoman whose dual nature defines much of the series' tension. Rokuro Okajima, a former Japanese salaryman, joins them after being kidnapped during a business trip to Thailand and choosing to remain rather than return to his old life.
The manga began serialization in Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday Gene-X in April 2002 and concluded its run in December 2021. The story spans 13 collected volumes, each packed with episodic missions involving heists, drug trafficking, and gang warfare. While the plot often resets for new adventures, arcs like the Roberta storyline provide deeper continuity and explore themes of violence, identity, and moral ambiguity within the underworld setting.
By late 2023, the series had sold over 9.5 million copies worldwide. Viz Media publishes the English edition in North America. An anime adaptation produced by Madhouse aired in 2006 with two seasons of 24 episodes each, followed by the five-episode OVA Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail released between 2010 and 2011. The franchise maintains a strong presence among seinen manga fans despite entering an extended hiatus after 2021.
