Austin FC

Austin FC entered Major League Soccer as the city's first top-tier professional sports franchise, officially commencing play in 2021 after being founded in 2018. The club occupies a unique position in Texas sports history by filling a void left by the absence of major league teams for decades. Their arrival marked a significant shift in the local sporting landscape, drawing immediate attention to Austin's growing population and cultural vibrancy.

The team competes in the Western Conference and plays its home matches at Q2 Stadium, a modern venue situated on the University of Texas campus. Designed with fan experience in mind, the facility has become central to the club's identity. The squad utilizes green and black colors to reflect a distinct visual brand that resonates deeply with the local community. [editar]

Josh Wolff served as the head coach for the majority of the club's early years, guiding the team through its inaugural season and subsequent campaigns. A significant organizational change occurred on October 1, 2026, when Khaled El-Ahmad was appointed Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director following his tenure at Minnesota United FC. This shift altered the front office structure while the team navigated periods without a permanent manager on the sideline during the 2026 season.

The 2026 regular season featured dramatic moments, including a September 26 match where Austin rallied from a three-goal deficit to secure a 3-3 draw against San Diego FC. The club also faced disciplinary challenges when midfielder Guilherme Biro received a red card during a September contest against Vancouver. Community engagement remained a priority, highlighted by the sixth annual Q-mmunity Gives program which awarded $150,000 to Central Texas nonprofits in October 2026.

Off the pitch, the organization addressed serious concerns when reports emerged in July 2026 regarding allegations of sexual abuse within the youth academy. Police and the FBI launched investigations into these claims, creating a complex backdrop for the club's otherwise competitive trajectory in the Western Conference. [editar]
