Sobre este álbum
Libertad Lamarque stood in a Mexico City studio in 1955 to record a two-song 78 rpm single for RCA Victor that would soon define the bolero genre. The A-side, "Historia de un amor," came from Panamanian songwriter Carlos Eleta Almarán, who crafted the melody after his brother's wife passed away. Lamarque delivered the lines with a dramatic contralto voice backed by Chucho Zarzosa's orchestra, creating a cinematic sound that blended Argentine tango roots with traditional bolero structures.
The B-side, "Dímelo al oído," written by Francisco Lomuto and Pancho Laguna, complemented the release but did not match the cultural impact of the title track. Contemporary reports state the single sold over four million copies within its first year of release. This massive commercial success directly inspired the production of a 1956 Mexican film starring Lamarque and Emilio Tuero under the same name.
No full-length 12-track studio album titled "Historia de un amor" existed at the time of the original 1955 release. Later collections like "Tesoros de Colección – Libertad Lamarque" gathered her RCA recordings into LPs, yet the historical record remains anchored to that initial two-song artifact. Artists across every continent have since recorded versions in dozens of languages, including Vietnamese and English, cementing the song as a global standard alongside classics like "La Vie en rose.".
