UN warns Taiz Yemen wheat reserves three weeks

    por Giantkebab: Yemen

Supply routes into and out of Taiz have been cut off, and now the UN says Yemen's third largest city may be down to its last three weeks of wheat and flour. Ansar al-Houthis have had the place under siege for weeks, part of a front that reignited last month when the Houthis pushed south. Roads closed means no essential food getting through, so people are crowding shops as prices climb, families say they can't find daily food, women are crying because there's nothing to feed their children. Panic buying is making it worse, some traders are accused of profiteering, and there are calls for military police inspectors to monitor prices so citizens feel secure. The UN says the situation on the ground is deteriorating rapidly. Victoria Gatenby, Al Jazeera

People in Thais crowd around a shop selling sacks of wheat. The price of food and other essentials is rising sharply, and many say they're struggling to survive. I swear, we know families who cannot find their daily food. Women are crying, they cannot find anything to feed their children. Yemen's third largest city has been under siege by the Ansar al-Houthis for weeks. It's part of a widening front in a conflict that reignited last month when the Houthis pushed south. Supply routes in and out of the city have been cut off. Taiz is suffering from road closures which are preventing delivery of essential food supplies. We appeal to the entire international community to work seriously to make a breakthrough and lift the siege on the province. People say panic buying is making a bad situation even worse. They also accused some traders of profiteering from the crisis. What we want is for inspectors from the military police and the relevant authorities to monitor prices so that citizens can feel secure. Now we are afraid. Do we fight the Houthis or the traders? The Houthis are fighting us, the traders are fighting us from the other side. With the Houthis' siege on tires intensifying, The UN is warning the situation on the ground is deteriorating rapidly.
