Gemma Chan JOSEPHINE LFF

por Murphy Popcorn 🎪: Gemma Chan

At LFF, Gemma Chan opened up about the family dynamic development for 'JOSEPHINE' alongside Channing Tatum and Mason Reeves. The cast spent time hanging out before filming started to build that specific ease a real family shares. They visited a playground where Channing and Mason got manicures and pedicures together, followed by a hanging competition on monkey bars that Mason won against both adults. The goal was simply to make Mason feel at ease with the other actors. Filming then moved forward taking scenes day by day. Gemma explains that because Mason is such an intelligent young girl, wise beyond her years, and a good listener, it gave Channing and herself permission to be very vulnerable in the scenes. She states it was really important they had that ease that a family has with each other. Honestly, the cast feels very lucky.

Yeah, it was really important that we felt like that we had that ease that a family would have with each other. We had a little bit of time before we started filming to hang out. Channing and Mason went and got a mani-pedi together. We went to the playground. We had a hanging competition on the monkey bars. Mason beat both of us. It was, yeah, we just wanted her to feel very at ease with us. And then it was just a case of being in each scene, taking it day by day. And honestly, because Mason is such an intelligent young girl and so wise beyond her years and such a good listener, I feel like it really gave Channing myself permission to be very vulnerable in the scenes with her. So we're very lucky.
