James Corbett on CBDCs and stablecoins
Legislation meant to block government digital dollars got passed after public alarm, but James Corbett argues a private alternative might be worse. Rules like the GENIUS Act force stablecoin companies to follow specific mandates that run counter to Bitcoin's original vision of trustless transactions. Since these coins are backed by the U.S. dollar, global buyers in places like Iran end up indirectly supporting American currency. This mechanism serves as a way to reinflate the U.S. dollar bubble in the post-petrodollar era while pushing against decentralized ideals. If you're stacking sats, the focus stays on Bitcoin rather than just price movements.

The CBDC threat, I think, is a real threat, and it has been correctly identified, and people rightly became alarmed at it. And so we saw this legislation to stop the CBDCs, etc. Good, yes, but private bank digital currency may not be any better. In fact, it may even be worse precisely because of things like the Genius Act that come along to put the regulatory environment in place that any company that wants to play in the space and issue their coins legally are going to have to play the game and essentially do exactly the opposite of what the Bitcoin white paper was talking about, which was completely central bankless, trustless transactions anywhere in the world, instantaneously digital, digital cash, essentially. Hey, what a wonderful idea. But nope, they're not going to let that happen, obviously. Instead, they're going to tie it to stable coins, which are predicated, of course, on, well, they're backed up with the good old U.S. dollar. So that eventually, once the stable coin idea gets out and people around the world in all of these countries, even Iran, eventually they'll be able to buy into the stable coins, thereby actually propping up the U.S. dollar while they're doing so. This is the way to reinflate the U.S. dollar bubble in the age post-petrodollar. If you're stacking sats, follow us because we're talking about Bitcoin all the time here, not just when the price goes up.
