Looking at the shift in global tourism rankings between two specific years, France started strong in 2000 with 75.6 million visitors, while the United States followed with 50.9 million and Spain held third with 47.9 million. Italy sat at fourth with 41.2 million, China was fifth at 31.2 million, and the United Kingdom came in sixth with 25.2 million. Russia took seventh place with 21.2 million, Mexico eighth with 20.6 million, Canada ninth with 19.7 million, and Germany rounded out the top ten with 19.0 million. By 2024, France stayed on top but climbed to 102.0 million visitors. Spain moved up to second with 93.8 million, the United States dropped to third with 72.4 million, and China rose to fourth with 64.9 million. Türkiye entered the top five with 60.6 million, pushing Italy down to sixth with 57.8 million. Mexico remained seventh with 45.0 million, the United Kingdom fell to eighth with 41.8 million, and Germany slid to ninth with 37.5 million. Japan finally broke into the top ten with 36.9 million.
