Musk $97.4B OpenAI bid and dot.com redirect

    por Vojtech: Elon Musk

Two months before OpenAI rolled out dots, the domain record for http://dot.com got updated. dots runs on GPT-6 Astra. Hours after launch, the internet clocked that http://dot.com is registered to SpaceXAI and sends you to the Grok Bot page. xAI has stayed silent. Prank or not? Nothing confirmed. Rewind to February 2025. Elon Musk put $97.4 billion on the table for OpenAI. Sam Altman turned it down, then tossed back: "no thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want." One tenth. Musk's answer was one word: "Swindler." These two started OpenAI together as a nonprofit back in 2015. Musk walked off the board in 2018. By February 2025 the org was moving to a for-profit structure, and that's when the bid landed. Four days in, the board unanimously rejected it. Altman told Bloomberg Musk was "probably just trying to slow us down." Analysts said the bid muddied the restructuring. Nobody expected a sale. The whole exchange still became a meme. Meanwhile I ran ChatGPT against Kimi K3. Full guide below ↓

Sam Altman. Sam, of course, the headlines right now. Elon Musk making a bid for OpenAI. Your response. You're turning him down for 97 billion. I mean, look, OpenAI is not for sale. The open AI mission is not for sale. Elon tries all sorts of things for a long time. This is the late, you know, this week's episode. You take it seriously at all. What do you think he's trying to drive out with this? I think he's probably just trying to slow us down. He obviously is a competitor. It's, you know, he's working hard and he's raised a lot of money for X. AI and they're trying to compete with us from a technological perspective from you know getting the product into the market. And I wish he would just compete by building a better product. But I think there's been a lot of tactics. Many many lawsuits all sorts of other crazy stuff. Now this and we'll try to just put our head down and keep working. Does it make it more difficult to move from that nonprofit model to that for profit model for open AI. We're not moving to a for profit model. We're not sure we're going to do it all, but no matter what, the nonprofit will continue to be extremely important. It will drive the mission. It will continue to exist. The board is looking at lots of options about how to best structure for this next phase, but the nonprofit is not changing anything or going anywhere.
