Flower bicycles of Hanoi
The city keeps redrawing itself, but on certain mornings the flowers still travel the same way they always have. That's the thing about Hanoi: the season doesn't wait for you inside a shop window. It comes rolling down the street instead. Bicycles loaded with more blooms than seems physically reasonable, pushed or ridden along roads shaded by old trees. Lotus when it's lotus time. Roses, sunflowers, chrysanthemums, each one showing up when its own season says so. More often than not it's a woman behind the handlebars, and if you wave, she'll stop. That's the whole transaction. No storefront, no display window, no counter to lean on. Just petals, a bicycle, and a street that knows the routine. For a lot of people in Hanoi this isn't a scene, it's simply how daily life sounds and looks. A visitor might read it as something borrowed from another era, and fair enough. What stays with me is the contrast: everything around it shifts, and the flower delivery doesn't. Same method, same streets, same quiet rhythm. Some traditions don't need protecting. They just keep showing up
