Claude finds unknown molecular machine in virus DNA

Nobody knows what it does yet, and that's kind of the wildest part. Anthropic's life sciences team handed Claude a whole research territory to dig through, and the model went over the literature plus a mountain of genome data. Around 950 Claude agents clocked 21 hours and burned 210 million tokens doing it. One of them caught a repeating pattern sitting in bacteriophage DNA, and flagged that it resembles CRISPR while not matching any system we already know. Claude then put together experiments to test the find, human researchers actually ran them in the lab, and the machine turned out to be real. So that's a molecular machine nobody had cataloged before, surfaced by an AI working the data. Dario, what did you create? #DarioAmodei
