The Blood on the Dance Floor visual didn't arrive out of nowhere. It traces back to the Dangerous era, where the song sat unused after sessions with Teddy Riley, and then got pulled out and built into something with its own pulse. MJ co-directed the whole thing while barely getting any rehearsal in, which explains why so much of it feels alive: him working a packed club set on instinct, salsa energy in the mix, tension spilling across the tables, and a switchblade moment that tips its hat to Beat It. The blood in it is rendered with a precision that still stands out. And the timing of it all: February 97, Prince Michael just born, Michael in Hollywood shooting all of this. A lot happening at once.
