We say that Dia was caught crossing into the United States in 2023 at the Arizona border and was released under the prior presidential administration. The current Homeland Security Secretary, Mark Wayne Mullen, talked over the weekend, not specifically about this case, but generally spoke about those who come to the United States illegally and commit crimes here. And critics are pointing to the Maryland quote sanctuary city policies as a reason for allowing people like Dia to be in this area. Authorities in Montgomery County, Maryland, believe there may be other victims in this case involving the same driver.
