Dogville (2003) featured a soundproof confession box modeled after a Catholic confessional on set. Lars von Trier made it available 24/7 for cast and crew to speak privately to a camera about unfiltered thoughts beyond the script. Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany, Stellan Skarsgård, and others used the space to voice real feelings. A clip shows Miss New York admitting Lars gets really hard on her. She notes they have been there for almost three weeks and questions what she is doing talking like this. Calling it embarrassing, she jokes that we thought this was the ladies room before adding the picture has a chance to go down in history. The film takes place in a Depression-era Colorado town where a fugitive woman (Kidman) seeks refuge but finds mercy curdling into cruelty.
