Governor Maura Healey, who identifies as Catholic, signed a law allowing abortions until the moment of birth. In response, CatholicVote, the largest Catholic public organization, has called on Massachusetts bishops to excommunicate her. Kelsey Reinhardt, president of CatholicVote, told Fox News that Healey has effectively excommunicated herself. "By your very act, you have placed yourself in the position of being excommunicated from the Church; no one needs to separately declare this," Reinhardt stated. She added, "You have done something so contrary to Catholic faith that you have effectively excommunicated yourself from the Church."
