    Aadat Hamza Bangash short film

What gets me about Aadat is that it never reaches for the usual romance beats. Hamza Bangash directed this Pakistani short from 2020, and the whole thing plays out in Karachi, where a young man hires a teenage sex worker. From there it digs into male sexuality, loneliness and what desire looks like in a conservative society, plus all the intimacy and vulnerability that only happen once the doors are shut. The stuff it leaves you chewing on is bigger than the plot: how people actually connect, what society expects of them, and the parts of their lives nobody else gets to see. It's provocative on purpose rather than sweet, showing sides of life that usually stay out of view. Honestly a reminder that the stories a society would rather not look at are often the ones that tell you the most
