Eisenhower globe damaged Pentagon

The Army confirmed an artifact linked to Dwight D. Eisenhower sustained serious damage after staff tried moving the 30-inch globe without consulting military-history specialists who usually handle these items. Sec. Hegseth had requested the historic piece be relocated to his Pentagon office, but control was lost on February 3 when it crashed onto its base and detached from its mounting. The incident left a gash several inches wide across the surface before the globe remained in its original location. This is one of two Pentagon globes tied to the former president, yet the move proceeded without waiting for experts. It feels like exactly the kind of unnecessary mistake that shouldn't happen with something this valuable. Washington Post writer Samuel reported the details of the breakage.
