Largest rabbit meat producing countries 2024

Rwanda landed at number 14 on the rabbit-meat chart, with 2,646 tonnes reported in 2024. That's the kind of detail buried under the headline numbers, where China sits way out front at 445,128 tonnes. North Korea takes second with 156,672, Egypt third at 51,480, Spain fourth at 33,927, France fifth at 21,365, Russia sixth at 17,593, and Benin seventh at 14,850. Algeria's 8,158, Ukraine's 8,000 and Sierra Leone's 7,981 close out the top ten. Then Mexico at 4,560, Peru 3,282, Colombia 3,186, South Korea 2,242, Gabon 2,094, Brazil 1,291, Ecuador 1,087, Burundi 1,076, and Botswana rounds it at 1,032. Africa keeps showing up across the wider ranking, with Egypt, Benin, Algeria, Sierra Leone and Gabon all in there. The reported global total comes to roughly 794,438 tonnes from 45 countries, and China's slice is about 56% of that. Small farms raising rabbits do a real job for rural incomes, local food supply and trade in farm goods, which is easy to forget when one country dominates the list. Numbers cover meat logged as fresh or chilled, not how many rabbits exist, and they're national reports that may not capture everything. Source: FAOSTAT
