Cornell University President statement

Women on our campus continue to question whether they are safe after a group sexual assault occurred at a Cornell University fraternity in 2024. The president of Cornell University released a letter addressing the incident, expressing deep apology for the harm Jane Doe suffered and noting that this act of sexual violence took place within the Cornell community. Meeting this moment requires acknowledging where we have fallen short and taking meaningful action. Over the past few weeks, the president listened to students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and trustees. These consultations revealed feelings of deep connection and sympathy with Jane Doe, anger and frustration that this could happen at Cornell, and outrage at the broader prevalence of sexual violence against women in our society.
