Sir Alex Ferguson on Juan Sebastián Verón

The real friction Sir Alex Ferguson faced with Argentine players at Manchester United came down to intense patriotism where flags were always nearby. He had no issue with that loyalty, but many of those he trained simply weren't interested in speaking English. The situation got specific with Juan Sebastián Verón, who barely said 'Mister' and kept entirely to himself in the locker room without talking to anyone else. It wasn't because he was antisocial; he just wasn't a communicator and refused to speak any language other than his own. Even though Verón made spectacular contributions on the pitch, Ferguson claims the manager couldn't effectively utilize him for the team's needs. He ended up playing in all positions, yet Ferguson insists he could have trained him for a hundred years and still never figure out where to actually put him.
