Kelly Clarkson Art of Play statement

Art of Play just released a formal statement to clear up what happened when Kelly Clarkson stopped by their Curiosity Shop on Saturday. The interaction only lasted five minutes, but it kicked off a whole public saga that the store feels needs more context. Clarkson asked specifically about Molly, the mechanical bird puppet that is permanently mounted on the wall and acts as the shop's mascot. Since Molly can't be bought, the staff told her about a nearly identical automaton owned by Bliss Kolb, an artist based in Seattle who created these machines. Kolb said he would sell his twin version for $15,000, a price point the team explained to Clarkson right then. After that, they tried to offer her something else: a different singing bird automaton crafted by a German clockmaking shop that was priced around $2,000 and could have been taken home immediately. Unfortunately, she didn't stay long enough to see that second option either. The store reached out directly to Kelly to try and clear the air after everything went viral. They are sending well wishes and really hope that everyone can laugh about this misunderstanding in the future.
