Hugo Sánchez Golden Boot stats

The Golden Boot rules in Europe used to treat every league the same, meaning Hugo Sánchez took home just one award under those historical standards. Switching to the current system where goals in the five major leagues count for two points changes everything. Under these new metrics, the Mexican striker would have secured four consecutive trophies instead of a single win. The goal tally speaks for itself: 34 strikes in 1986-87, 29 in 1987-88, 27 in 1988-89, and a massive 38 in 1989-90. Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have ever won four or more Golden Boots historically. This stat highlights that Hugo Sánchez was a legend who may not have received sufficient recognition for his time at Real Madrid.
