The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature goes to Anne Carson. A Canadian, she's spent a career pulling ancient narratives into the present, and the award feels like a natural fit for someone whose whole project is making old stories land with people alive right now. Her toolkit is unusual: poetry, essays, translation, and scholarship on classical Greek literature, often all at once in the same book. Autobiography of Red is the clearest example, taking a figure out of ancient Greek myth and turning him into a modern study of love, loneliness, and identity. What makes the writing hard to pin down is that it won't sit still inside poetry, fiction, or scholarship. It moves between them. Carson's view seems to be that a story told thousands of years ago isn't closed. It can be pulled apart, rebuilt, and made to mean something to readers here and now. That approach now has literature's top honor attached to it. Source: NobelPrize / Writer: Oliver
