Largest Eggplant-Producing Countries 2024

You might not realize how much eggplant, aubergine, or garden egg actually matters when it comes to feeding people and keeping farmers paid across Asia, Africa, and other regions. This vegetable is everywhere in cooking, processing, and fresh markets, yet the scale of production varies wildly depending on where you look. China dominated the charts in 2024 with a massive 34.87 million tonnes harvested. India followed up strong as the second largest producer with 13.00 million tonnes that same year. Egypt secured the third spot by producing 1.78 million tonnes total. The numbers drop off significantly after that but still show serious global output. Guinea managed 950,200 tonnes while Türkiye brought in 827,000 tonnes. Indonesia contributed 676,700 tonnes to the global supply chain. Iran produced 596,900 tonnes and Bangladesh added 563,700 tonnes. Italy rounded out the top tier with 413,100 tonnes of eggplants grown. Spain came next with 297,700 tonnes produced in 2024. Japan hit 280,200 tonnes and Uzbekistan reached 243,500 tonnes. The Philippines grew 228,300 tonnes and Algeria produced 219,600 tonnes. Syria contributed 152,100 tonnes while Pakistan made 131,500 tonnes. Sri Lanka added 124,200 tonnes and Côte d'Ivoire finished this section with 121,500 tonnes. Morocco also appeared on the list with 116,700 tonnes harvested. Saudi Arabia closed out the data set with 113,600 tonnes produced. All these figures come from FAOSTAT (2024) via Terra Cultiva. Keep in mind the numbers are rounded and some country data might include estimates or imputed values. You can follow for more global agricultural production rankings if you want to see what else is happening.
