Russia warns Iran on NPT withdrawal

Iran's parliament has an urgent proposal on the table to pull out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the drumbeat for leaving keeps getting louder from people inside the government and those who used to hold office there. The Kremlin would rather that not happen. Moscow is saying openly that it does not want Tehran walking away from the NPT, describing the agreement as a pillar holding up the whole global non-proliferation framework, and asking Iran to stay on as a "responsible" member. So you end up with a strange dynamic: Russia, normally one of Iran's closest partners, is the one telling it not to make a move that would push nuclear tensions further.
