Wadephul meets Lavrov

So Wadephul asked to meet Lavrov and basically said war is bad, war is dangerous, and we can be friend again if you stop war in Ukraine. The meeting lasted only 15 minutes and lead to nothing. Genius diplomacy! The question is why even meet like this after years of silence and boycott? They're afraid to be left out in case something happens.
