The Lucerne Public Prosecutor's Office has an investigation open, and the man at the middle of it is Granit Xhaka. His admission: back in 2022 he got a fake COVID-19 vaccination certificate. What he's saying about that period is that fear and doubt were running the show, plus a real distrust of the vaccine. I take responsibility for this decision." Cooperation with authorities is what he says he's giving while this process plays out. Switzerland, meanwhile, pulled him from the call-up for this FIFA date. The reasoning was to stop the situation from bleeding into the team. So the Swiss captain is back at the center of a controversy, and the roots of it go back to 2022.
