Alessandro Costacurta on Ronaldo

Alessandro Costacurta ranks Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time, calling him the best striker he has witnessed and even better than Van Basten. That Dutch legend was nearly impossible to mark, yet Ronaldo still stood above everyone else in his view. He discussed this with Paolo Maldini, noting that Ronaldo caused them significant difficulty during matches despite having previously marked Diego Maradona. The level was just superior. When defenders closed in tight, Ronaldo sought depth. If they covered that space to deny it, he came face-to-face with them instead. Costacurta describes this approach as obsessive. #AlessandroCostacurta
