The Dark Knight Joker interrogation scene

The interrogation room is where it actually happens, not the sky beams. A guy in a filthy suit with a crooked smile sits across from Batman and just explains how fast civilization folds once the lights go out. That is the whole argument of The Dark Knight, and it is why no modern CBM villain has matched the Joker since 2008. Heath Ledger is the reason. He took what used to be a cartoon antagonist and rewrote how villains get written in modern cinema, turning the character into a philosophical force of nature who exposes how fragile human civilization really is, using nothing but a pencil and a deck of cards. The plot is almost a joke when you lay it out. A billionaire dressed as a bat, a disgraced district attorney, and a psychotic anarchist all walk into a city. The anarchist destroys half the infrastructure just to prove everyone is as broken as he is. The DA loses his mind over a coin flip. And the billionaire takes the blame for five murders so the city's public relations stay clean.
