Miroslav Klose on football culture change

Miroslav Klose walked away from the game because the football he knew simply vanished. The shift in mindset among younger athletes is stark when compared to his own childhood, where training and success were the only things that mattered. During his time with Lazio and the national team, Klose relied on ice baths after every session to prevent injuries, yet young players systematically refused to participate in that recovery routine. A specific moment of friction occurred when he started picking up bags of balls to store them at the end of practice; teammates questioned why anyone would do that work for him. That interaction sparked an internal conflict: how can a 20-year-old refuse to assist a 60-year-old worker? The priority has shifted entirely toward ensuring boots match socks rather than helping others out. This disconnect led to the decision to stop playing. The version of football he understood no longer exists.
