Heath Ledger Joker face hidden scene

There's a wild detail buried in The Dark Knight (2008): Heath Ledger's Joker is basically never seen without a mask. For two hours and thirty-two minutes, his actual face is hidden, except for one brief four-second shot. The rest of the time, it's layers of clown white, dark circles around the eyes, and that waxy red smile. But the funeral scene at city hall took a different approach. Instead of greasepaint, he wore flesh-toned makeup to slip into the honor guard. The mayor was just three feet away. Nobody in the scene clocks him, and neither does anyone watching, not until the rifles come up. Ledger was 28 when he died, though without all that paint in daylight, he looked closer to 22. This was shot in Chicago in July 2007, with only six months left before his death. To get into character, he holed up in a London hotel room for forty-three days. He put together a scrapbook filled with hyena pictures, Stanley Kubrick stills, and private notes nobody saw until later. The walk, the tongue movements, the laugh, all built from scratch. The movie pulled in $1.005 billion. He won the Oscar posthumously, just the second actor ever to do that, following Peter Finch by thirty-two years. He never made it to opening night. That single scene basically carries the whole movie's argument. The Joker doesn't bring down Gotham with bombs or force. He does it by wearing the city's own uniform. Armed men trust the badge, and that's exactly what does them in. Gotham falls because it trusts the uniform. Under that cap is the guy who lit it all on fire.
