Maryam Mirzakhani Fields Medal portrait

Curtis T. McMullen breaks down how Maryam Mirzakhani fused algebraic geometry, symplectic geometry, low-dimensional topology, and random processes with serious originality. That integration didn't just sit there; it shifted our entire perspective on moduli spaces. The result opened doors to mathematical frontiers where striking developments keep unfolding. Her work stands as proof of what happens when you bring distinct fields together with that level of insight.
