    Anthropic $30 trillion IPO pitch

So Anthropic's big pitch to Wall Street is that replacing human workers is a $30 trillion annual opportunity. That number is wilder than it looks, it's bigger than China's whole economy, about the size of the US's $32.5 trillion, and a quarter of all global earnings. But here's the thing: they didn't get there by counting software licenses or cloud contracts. They just looked at all the work AI could theoretically do, which is basically the world's wage bill. So they're telling investors they've only grabbed 0.2% of that, with revenue around $65 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025. To put it in perspective, all 191 tech companies in the S&P 1500 combined pulled in $2.4 trillion last year. Anthropic's claiming a market twelve times bigger than that. That $30 trillion is doing a lot of heavy lifting to make a $2 trillion valuation and a $100 billion raise look reasonable, that would beat SpaceX's record $86.2 billion IPO. But who actually runs the show after? Dario Amodei owns about 2%, founders get special voting stock, and the trust that appoints the board just dropped from four to three trustees. So investors might get no vote and no board seat, while insiders could sell shares in the offering, something SpaceX refused to allow. The irony is thick: the name comes from the Greek for human, and the pitch is that software can do what humans get paid for. Amodei himself warned about wealth concentration breaking society and predicted AI could wipe out half of entry-level white-collar jobs. If they ever collect a slice of that $30 trillion, it has to come out of someone's paycheck.
