@kimonWhat stays with me isn't the anger first, it's the tenderness, then the heartbreak underneath it. The Normal Heart is a 2014 drama, and its backdrop is New York City in the early 1980s, when AIDS was still this mysterious thing killing people while fear, discrimination and silence closed in around the gay community. Everyone affected is fighting like hell just to make the world look up. Ned Weeks is Mark Ruffalo, a passionate activist set on exposing the crisis, and Felix Turner is Matt Bomer, a closeted New York Times reporter who falls deeply in love with him. That relationship is where the tenderness and hope come from in a world sliding further into uncertainty, suffering and loss. Once the epidemic spreads, fear and illness test the two of them, plus the pain of watching people they care about suffer. What the film gets across is a community desperate to survive and just as desperate for dignity, recognition and compassion. Bomer's Felix is an extraordinary, deeply emotional piece of work, vulnerable and human in a role caught between love and tragedy. Ruffalo matches him, carrying Ned's anger, his determination, his refusal to stay quiet. The Normal Heart plays as a tribute to those lost during the AIDS crisis, and as a reminder of love, solidarity and speaking out when the world would rather look away ❤️‍🩹🏳️‍🌈 #MarkRuffalo
