@timofeyNine countries filed comparable numbers with FAOSTAT for 2024, and the whole reported pile comes to roughly 74,400 tonnes. That's the part that got me. China is way out front at 47,900 tonnes, which is about 64.4% of the reported total on its own. Niger lands second with 13,400 tonnes, and put those two side by side and you're looking at around 82.4% of everything reported. Mauritania rounds out the top three at 4,000 tonnes, then Mali at 3,900, Senegal at 3,300 and Burkina Faso at 1,800. The tail end is where it gets strange, honestly: Lesotho at 42 tonnes, Argentina at 35, and Kazakhstan down around 6. One thing to keep straight, this is meat counted as fresh or chilled, not a headcount of live animals. And it only covers the nations that actually reported comparable figures for 2024, so nobody should read it as the full global picture. FAOSTAT 2024 is where the numbers come from, with the calculations and presentation done by Terra Cultiva
