@FootynewsPep Guardiola just shut down the idea that he trained Lionel Messi, claiming the player actually made him a better coach instead. The whole thing started when Mikel Arteta told Pep during a vacation in Miami that making a midfielder win the Ballon d'Or was crazy and proved he was the best. Pep laughed, saying this was the first time he pulled off that feat and felt differently about it. But Arteta reminded him they also made Messi win the award back at Barcelona. That's when Pep argued Messi would have won regardless of any team or coach because his playing ability was too much. He insisted Messi trained him rather than the reverse, attributing all titles to the Argentine and calling his Ballon d'Or wins fully deserved. Then Pep dropped the final truth bomb: did you train Messi? The answer is no, so forget about that. This entire conversation comes from the Gary Neville Podcast.
