Today, a Romanian court ordered him into pre-trial detention for 30 days. The strange thing is that the case putting him behind bars now isn’t actually the case that made him famous. Prosecutors allege Georgescu and two others persuaded a businessman to hand over €1.1 million for financing that never materialized. He denies wrongdoing. Meanwhile, he is already facing two separate prosecutions connected to alleged national-security offenses and the promotion of Romania’s fascist-era figures.
