    Largest Chromium-Producing Countries 2023

@timofeyChromium is the backbone of stainless steel, ferrochrome, alloy manufacturing, and anything built to resist corrosion, yet most people don't realize how specific the data gets when tracking global output. World Mining Data 2025 pulls from their Worldly Original Content series to show that these figures measure chromium (Cr₂O₃) content in mine production using metric tonnes, which means we are looking at the actual mineral weight rather than the total bulk of the ore itself. The numbers tell a story where South Africa dominates with 7,968,350 metric tonnes produced in 2023, a single country contributing 54.82% of the entire global total. Kazakhstan sits second with 1,803,200 metric tonnes, followed by India at 1,511,800 metric tonnes, and Türkiye rounding out the top four with 1,152,200 metric tonnes. Those first four nations combined account for roughly 85.55% of all chromium mined worldwide. After that massive lead pack, Zimbabwe comes in with 484,800 metric tonnes, then Albania produces 387,200 metric tonnes, Finland adds 376,390 metric tonnes, Brazil brings 193,532 metric tonnes, Oman contributes 150,800 metric tonnes, Russia outputs 149,120 metric tonnes, Iran reaches 85,420 metric tonnes, Papua New Guinea supplies 67,500 metric tonnes, Pakistan provides 62,250 metric tonnes, China yields 54,220 metric tonnes, the Philippines mines 40,780 metric tonnes, Madagascar produces 33,700 metric tonnes, Afghanistan extracts 10,100 metric tonnes, Cuba rounds out the list with 2,700 metric tonnes, Sudan adds 2,100 metric tonnes, and Ethiopia finishes the ranking with just 200 metric tonnes. When you add it all up, World Mining Data reports that 14.54 million tonnes of chromium (measured as Cr₂O₃ content) were produced globally across all these locations in 2023.

The image focuses on a man in a hard hat and safety vest holding a chunk of ore in front of a large-scale mining operation. The overall mood is informative and industrial, with a clear infographic style. The man's direct gaze and the raw material he holds are visually notable.
