Callan was eight months old. On January 24, 2023, their mother killed all three of them with elastic exercise bands while her husband wasn't home. She has never disputed it. The defense said postpartum psychosis drove her to it. A nanny who worked for the family took the stand and described Clancy as a wonderful mother who loved her kids. Women showed up at the courthouse dressed in pink for her. More than a million dollars got raised on her behalf. Eleven jurors voted to acquit, apparently ready to convert the whole proceeding into a public movement, while a single holdout refused to look past what was actually done to three children. On September 4, 2026, roughly 40 hours of deliberation ended in a mistrial. Odds are there won't be another trial at all. A plea deal looks far more probable now. District Attorney Timothy Cruz hasn't said anything about retrying the case, and attorney Kevin Reddington is calling it a win while making clear he won't accept prison time for his client. So no justice for these children, just a brand new space for justifications. Cori, Dawson and Callan are gone, and no deal brings them back. The bitter part is that Lizzie Borden herself would have thrived under a system like this. Equal justice is supposed to mean the law applies the same way to everyone. It can't go dark just because a crowd picked a killer to be the face of a cause. Three dead kids are not a movement. Murder is still murder.
