The Odyssey box office milestone
@rogers_jamieChristopher Nolan's The Odyssey just hit a global box office total of 1.63 billion dollars, and the numbers keep getting wilder. It earned 33 million dollars overseas during its eighth weekend, which is a 33.1% drop from the previous week but still insane compared to other runs. That brings the international cumulative total to 1.04 billion dollars across 82 markets, with Japan scheduled to release the film the following week. Add that to the US cumulative total of 584.8 million dollars, and you have a production budget of 250 million dollars (excluding marketing costs) turning into a massive haul. Next weekend, the film will exceed The Lion King's global total of 1.66 billion dollars and Jurassic World's global total of 1.67 billion dollars. Crossing those thresholds ranks the film as the 12th highest-grossing film globally and makes it Universal Pictures' highest-grossing film in history. IMAX screenings are extended through the end of September in several markets while analysts project the film could reach a global total between 1.8 billion and 1.9 billion dollars.
